Creating a feature element in your new bathroom’s design scheme is simple with the right combination of stylish tiles! Bathroom tiles are available in all sorts of designs, from different shapes, colours and textures to luxurious patterns and more, enabling the creation of an endless range of designer looks in your new bathroom design. As tiles often make up the bulk of your bathroom’s colour scheme, it is important to take the time to create a well-balanced and cohesive look when designing the space.
We run through a few different ways you can create stylish feature elements in the bathroom using different types of tiles while also creating a sense of balance and cohesion in your choice of colours and materials.
Creating a Pattern using Subway Tiles
Classic subway tiles have long been a favourite choice in the bathroom thanks to their simple rectangular shape and the many different styles available to choose from. Classic white subway tiles continue to be one of the most popular options however, there are many different styles to choose from including marble subway tiles, metallic finish tiles and plenty more.
One of the reasons why these timeless tiles continue to be so popular in the home is the fact that they can be used in so many different ways. Subway tiles can be used to create a range of different patterns (or tile layouts), allowing you to experiment with a range of designer looks when creating your new bathroom’s design scheme. Due to their simple rectangle shape and smaller size, these tiles can be laid in a range of different patterns such as: vertically or horizontally stacked, herringbone tile layouts, basket weave patterns and more.

Combine Dramatic Pattern Tiles with Bold Paint Colours
A great way to create an impactful feature in your bathroom design scheme is to pair dynamic tiles with wall paint (or ceiling paint!). In the example below, our Kew bathroom renovation combines a striking black and white pattern tile with a deep charcoal paint on the ceiling. This high-ceilinged space is carefully balanced with the use of bold black and white touches to create a dramatic and unique style. Glossy white wall tiles are used throughout the space, acting as a reflective surface finish that adds depth and light into the space. The bolder feature tiles are used strategically in the room so as not to overwhelm the eye whilst the black painted ceiling creates a sense of grounding and balance in the overall design.

Create a Feature Floor in the Bathroom
If a feature wall is not in line with your own individual design style, a feature floor in the bathroom may be a better option. Using an impactful floor tile in the bathroom paired with more subtle finishes in the rest of the space will create a strong sense of character in the room while also offering a harmonious and well-balanced design aesthetic. In the example below, a grey and white pattern floor tile is used to add a sense of character in the design. The grey tones in the tiles are reflected in the soft grey of the vanity benchtop and splashback whilst the crisp white wall tiles and vanity unit create a sense of balance in the room.

There are many ways you can use bathroom tiles to create feature elements in your new design, whether you opt for a feature wall, a feature floor or create patterns using tile shapes instead.
